When The Bells Toll

Yesterday, I came across a friend and she told me about her bell-ringing experience at a church just around the corner from my house. I said to her that nearby bell always made it possible for me to forecast the weather.
I explained that whenever I could hear the bell ring loudly and with clarity, then rain is on the way as sound waves travel further and sound better in damp moist air. If it sound dull and seemingly far-away, then fair weather is likely to prevail as sound waves doesn't travel as well in dry air or low humidity. I use the same method with trains travelling a bit further away from my home location.
She was quite suitably impressed by that, which pleased me as I usually drop clangers when it comes to conversations.
