Summer Mist

While I was at work earlier on today, I swore I heard the camera call out for me, so I grabbed it and took a short walk into a nearby wood . As you can see my gut instincts turned out to be right! Ten minutes after I took these photos, the mist disappeared and that ray effect was gone.

Parched

A very dry first half of 2010 is resulting in a rather parched front lawn . . . a repeat of last year!

Mock Sun (Or Dog Sun)

Usually appears 22 degrees directly to the left or right of a setting or rising sun. This particular one was taken at 7.45 pm, it's where sunlight gets refracted in the millions of prism-like ice needles that makes up high level cirrus clouds. The end result is that colour seperation we get to see in the form of a "mock sun". This fine example is the reason why it does get called that sometimes!.

Misty Hill

Finally, the first decent bit of morning mistiness in what seemed like ages! This one was spotted at bottom of Kick Hill, located between Cheriton and Westinghanger in Kent. It was taken at 5.15 am while on my way to work this morning.
This kind of thing is usually caused by warm humid air that had cooled down and condensed quickly during the night, then the lot settles close to the ground due to cold air being denser than warm air. Winds has to be very calm and still for it otherwise the lot gets all mixed up and that mistiness wouldn't appear . . .

Fiery Sunrise

Captured this gorgeous sun rise just as I was leaving the house for work at 4.45 am. The bucket-shaped building to the left is one of the Martello Towers (overlooking Folkestone's East Cliff).

Hairy Bikers

An old friend, Ian Fraser came to visit me today. Couldn't resist turning it into a photo opportunity what with all this facial fungus thing that is going on!

Shelf Cloud

My photograph of yesterday's storm isn't anywhere as good as what I've seen on the internet, but here it is anyway .This was an approaching shelf cloud ahead of a short but sharp storm as it loomed over us in from the south west (viewed from my hobby room yesterday at 7.30 pm).

Gary

Meet Gary at 6 weeks old. He's a mum's friend's grandson who turned up to visit us. Naturally my shutter button finger started twitching. This photo was taken outdoors in the shade with no flash using my D40. Unfortunately he was asleep the whole time so I had to give him a gentle poke to wake him up, but only had a 5 seconds window to take photos of him being awake!

Summer 2010 In A Nutshell

As I continue to slowly get my photography mojo back, I thought today (July 10th) was a good day to capture the essence of a glorious summer that is Summer 2010.

Three Of A Kind

A pleasant enough family portrait of Emma's (a close friend) boys. Although it is clear that Jacob was not in the mood to be part of this photo shoot!
