First Light at Folkestone Harbour

Last night's heat made it difficult for me to sleep properly, so at the crack of dawn I got out of bed and went for an early morning stroll around the Harbour area. The first photo is dawnbreak over the Harbour side, it was 5.15 am at the time. The second photo is the newly installed "Folkestone Mermaid".

Chad's Afternoon Nap

"Sun? M'eh, ain't letting it get in the way of my afternoon nap". For the photographers amongst you, this was taken at ISO 1600 using my D3100, no flash (used light from the window). Very impressed with how it remains "noise free" under what is very difficult lighting conditons!

Harbour Fireworks

This firework display kick started the Folkestone Triennial. However, photographing fireworks is NOT as easy as it looks - and it was raining at the time. Droplets kept showing up on the lens so I had to keep wiping them off every five seconds as it was ruining the images!

Approaching Squall Line

That is an approaching squall line, once overhead it usually gives a few minutes of very heavy rain and then quickly back to sunshine once that squall line has moved on.

"Old" Folkestone

A "classic" view of The Old High Street (top) and St Eanswhythe's Church (bottom), taken this morning. Although even the HDR couldn't pick out the very featureless white-out cloud covered sky in the church photo!

Race For Life

Earlier on today, there was a charity event at Folkestone where thousands of women took part in a charity run called Race For Life. It is in aid of breast cancer awareness.

Side By Side

. . . In brotherly (or sisterly?!) love. This was taken at the local pond yesterday morning, conditions was rather overcast at the time.

Altostratus Undulatus

Noticed this interesting looking cloud formation earlier on today. It was a bit like looking at the sea from underneath.

Red Arrows Fly Pass

The Red Arrows roared over Folkestone at precisely 6.30 pm - and I just happened to be in the right place at the right time to capture it. Having good lighting helped a lot

Light String

A couple of shots involving a £2 mains powered light string. No processing and no photoshopping were involved, all in one take using long exposure photography in a darkened room with a black sheet for the background and that's it.
