Murky

As viewed from my hobby room window last night

Maximum Warp Drive!

That's the first thing that sprang to mind as soon as I took this photo. I only wanted to take a photo to show off the murkiness (which we've had for two days straight) but as luck would have it, a police car with lights flashing away passed by while the camera was at work taking the 8-seconds long exposure!

Red On Red

Was a bit bored this evening, so I came up with this "arty" type shot using a red background on my computer screen and a little mobile phone app that lets the screen show a neat single colour, then tried to match the two together and did it all in one shot.

The Bird

Taken earlier on this morning using my new Lumix. I know it's not at all very festive (but then again I've never been the one to make a big deal about Christmas) and I have done a similar thing before, but I quite like this for it's processing style.

Urban Glow

Some more snow fell last night. I like the way it produces that orange urban glow, but I must get myself around and try out different locations whenever something like this happens (as most of my night time snow photos were taken from my hobby room window!).

Ducks

Today, a bike ride took me past what is now a almost totally frozen pond at Radnor Park.

Monkeh Stars In . . .

Thought I'd get Monkeh to pose for the camera again . . .

Winter Continues

A snow storm raged through the town this afternoon. That enabled me to get this candid shot of some giggling girls frolicking about in the snow.

Jack Frost Visits Us Again

This was the kind of scene that greeted me at work this morning. Yes, I had to work in that which made for some serious frosty fingers.

Frozen Leaves

Came across this slab of ice containing some Autumn leaves. Held it up in the morning sunshine and got this shot . . .

Fallstreak Hole and Mock Sun Combo

Earlier on today I have captured this rare fallstreak hole and mock sun combo.
A little bit of info; A fallstreak hole is caused when supercooled water droplets - ones that says in an unfrozen state even at -40 C - touches a dirt particle and suddenly turns into ice crystals and spreads outwards in a kind of chain reaction. The outer... edge is clear because as water turns into ice, a little bit of latent heat is given off.
The rainbow effect is where them ice crystals just happened to be in perfect alignment with the sun and some refraction occurred.

Looking Up

A familiar landmark for those living locally to me. It is an Early Learning Center, in the shape of a huge upside down bucket - located only up the road from my home.

Winter Sunset

Captured this decent little sunset, aided by altocumulus, just as I was leaving work this afternoon.

The Rime Frost Continues

The rime frost event - which is exceptionally rare around these parts at the best of tmes - continued into today. I just had to get these photos in before the lot becomes a figment of my memory.

Rime Frost

Got to see what I consider to be a very rare weather phenomenon around these parts - rime frost. Not to be confused with snow as rime frost is formed when freezing fog comes into contact with any objects and crystallizes into this thick wad of pure frost. The photos are the right way up, as the frost points toward where... the wind blew the freezing fog onto the object.

Cold Hearted

This afternoon's bike ride took me through a cemetery, out of a handle of photos, I consider these two to be the best ones.
The third photo is a close up of an icicle hanging off a gutter on my house. They look so much better when lit up by the sun.

A Snow Day

Today has been a major snow day in every sense of the word. Six inches of snow, along with drifts of up to two foot meant I've not been able to get to work today. Instead it turned out to be a good day for photography!

Snow Lights

It snowed heavily this evening, so I took myself down to the town's shopping center and tried to capture the festive feel of things.
