Light Dome

Finally cracked was is supposed to be a well kept secret in the world of photography!

Guess Who Is Back?!

The results of a "Make Your Own Morph" kit I got for Christmas.
Unfortunately Morph had to be sitting down for the whole photo shoot as his little old legs kept buckling under his own weight, and as you can see in the third photo, the years has not been kind to his face.

December Sunrise

Had this lovely - and long lasting - post Christmas sunset as viewed from my hobby toom today. Been a while since I last got to see a real proper coloured one!
The first one was taken at 4 pm, and the one below about twenty minutes later. The third photo is a HDR using three bracketed shots (three photos of the same thing but each with varied exposure settings and merged into as one image).

The Old Place

That is my former workplace at Farthing Common. I went to visit a friend who lives near there, so I decided to have a trip around memory lane.

Christmas?

. . . B'ah humbug.

Winter Solstice Sunset

A fine sunny day was rounded off with this colour hued sunset as viewed from my hobby room. A shame that today was the shortest day of the year as it was positively spring-like!

A Midwinter's Day

We may be lacking the snows so far this year, but the low winter sun does make for some decent daytime photography - such as this view of Castle Hill Avenue at Folkestone shows.

December Sunrise

Not seen one of those in a long time - a decent red sunrise. This was taken from a rather frosty front garden at 7.45 am.

Christmas Lights

Folkestone town's christmas lights are now up and running.

Bright Night

You know it's winter when it is brighter in the night than during the day time!
The very full moon showed off the effect quite well at 3 am.

Folkestone In A New Light

Some decorative LED lights has been installed in the old Inner Harbour just around the corner from my house. One not to let a decent photography opportunity pass me by, I took myself out there, even though it was cold and blustery.
Was worth ruining my new trainers as I stepped into sticky silt!

Dungeness Mirage

An ultra zoom lens view of Dungeness, taken from Sandgate. Note the slight mirage effect caused by cold air sitting on top of what is still a fairly warm English Channel.

Leas Lift

A HDR-type photo of the Leas Cliff, taken on a sunny but very cold Monday morning.

Folkestone At Night

Last night, I went on a night time photography mission. However, because it was cold and windy, it wasn't very long before I found myself wanting to head for the warmth and comfort of my home!

Leas Canopy

Something I took while on a bike ride during a fresh and sunny morning.

Cosy

My lanterns in my hobby room this evening.

Calm Sea

Went on an early morning bike ride since the weather was clear and calm. It even felt warm in the weak late-Autumn sunshine. The sea being like a mill pond showed it all.

Warren Cloud

That is the nickname given to a local weather event where cloud clings to the high ground between Folkestone and Dover as hill fog, but is clear elsewhere. The "Warren" name comes from the ground section underneath the cliffs as apparently that is where lots of rabbits breed.
There has been better and more striking examples than this one in the past, but it does show the variation in our local climate. Mind you, in this case, the low late-autumn sun and the haze had made for rather poor outdoor photography conditions anyway.

Summe . . . I mean, Autumn Continues

The fine settled spell continued into today, as this hazy suburban scene shows.

A Fine Autumn's Day

It has been a fine Autumn's day. That was more like it as it provided a much better type of light for photography - and a huge relief after more than a week of overcast gloomy conditions.

Bandstand HDR

Thought I'd dust off my old S5600 by bringing it out of retirement. Charged the battery and took it for a spin as I headed to the Leas Cliff . . . and got this.

Squashed Sunrise

Spotted this "squashed sunrise" this morning as it rose over the Strait of Dover. The effect is caused by light being refracted by a layer of cold surface air - a kind of mirage effect.

Desolation

It's pretty obvious that the "infamous" Sunday Market has seen far better days on this glum Sunday afternoon.

Mystical Waterfall

Ah yes, the obligtory cheesy mystical waterfall shot, with HDR thrown in. Sorry, but s'gotta be done.
Taken today near Sandgate.

A November's Day

During my usual mid-day bike ride, it seems that conditions were very good for photography. A fine bright morning gave me this calm back-lit scenery at Castle Hill Avenue, but then the cloudscape took on that moody look which made for ideal HDR photography!

Every Kid Should Have One

Result of an art project by me and my sister.

Bloody Sunrise

Spotted while on a dawn stroll along East Cliff Sands.
The first image is a HDR composed of four different exposures. The second one came straight out of the camera using manual settings with no post-processing.

I Can See A . .

. . . Rainbow!
Saw that near-perfect 'bow from my hobby room window this morning as a cheeky shower passed by. Had to fit a cheap wide-angle lens onto my Lumix TZ45 in order to fit it all in, though.

The Watch Tower

That is the now-disused watch tower at Folkestone Harbour (which, that, too is disused).

Apocalypse Now!

Had a go at creating some more urbex HDR stuff, using stuff I've taken photos of in the past 24 hours alone.

Catch Of The Day

Fishing boat at Folkestone harbour at 6.30 am. Wasn't sure whether it was starting up or finishing for the day!
