Flight Of Fancy

Gave the drone another flight today, but this time over Folkestone Harbour, on what was a fair and mild October's day. Think I'm getting the hang of it now.

 

Another Aurora Photo

Once I got back home from my outdoors photography session in the evening, I noticed the aurora was taking on a second wind shortly after midnight so I quickly set up the big camera in the back yard and got this. Like before it is a 30 seconds long exposure but the red was strong enough to cast a faint pink hue on everything around me.

Northern Lights Take Two

 

Just had a major aurora display here at Folkestone this evening. You know it's something when I get to see that more often than snowfalls here.

Harbour Lights

Finally took a never seen-before (in my eyes) view of Folkestone harbour from the Grand Burstin. Used my big camera for this one, it was just about manageable with the freshening onshore wind.

As our weather is set to be changeable over the next few days. Seems Summer is already done with us, although that was a bit stunted this year.

New Heights

I've actually had a drone (DJi 2 mini) for two years but only got around to giving it it's first test flight today. This is the Folkestone Warren on what was the first clear and wind-free day in what seemed like months.

Kate Bush Day

This event took place at Folkestone harbour where hundreds of women all in red danced to "Wuthering Heights" this afternoon.

Folkestone Charivari

A carnival type procession involving paper figures and tribal drums took place here at the harbour area today, I took this from my next door's front garden using the big camera's zoom lens as I didn't fancy being up close in the crowd.

A Fair Game?

£13 to view a single Euro '24 match at Folkestone harbour. That's not including £7 a pint, god knows how much more for food and there are the parking charges. I'm sure there are cheaper ways to watch England lose.

Urbex Photography

I noticed a door to a nearby long since abandoned office building was open and since I had my iSamsony smartbone on me, the urge to do some exploration was too strong - but so was the smell in there so I didn't hang around for long. That said, it has been a while since I did a urbex photography session.

Full Steam Ahead Take 2

This time I was more prepared with a fully charged up Nikon D7000 and a break in the weather. In this case it was a Britannia Class "Clan Line" locomotive that made an appearance here at Folkestone today.

TV Times

Since I've not had my living room telly for that long, I've decided to bite the bullet and finally opened up my very own streaming TV account. I think it is time to move with the times as Freeview has become a bit stale.

Aurora

Finally got to see the Northern Lights right here at Folkestone this evening! I didn't think I'd take anything this spectacular with a smartphone camera, which made it worth the walk around a freezing cold Folkestone Harbour. Seemed the hyped up aurora forecasts turned out to be true and as a result that's one wish ticked off where I won't need to travel to Finland or Iceland after all.

A Black Five stormed through Folkestone on a fair Saturday morning. Thought I'd go for an "iconic" look but unfortunately right at the last minute I had to switch over to my iSamsony smartbone after the batter on my proper camera died (my fault for not checking the charge after lack of use).
